The title is part of a (very long) line from the play '4.48 psychosis' by Sarah Kane, a very sad text that I have re-read many many times over the years. But with every subsequent re-reading, the play seems to be less about sadness, and more about the act of understanding, or the sadness that comes from the lack of understanding. Cockroaches are a recurring motif in the text, and I understood the cockroaches as a metaphor for the 'truth' that comes with full understanding. Eventually, I started to think about metaphors themselves, leading to a collection of images that contextualises cockroaches as a system of choreographies, hidden meanings, and messages.
